The history of the PRIMO brand (formerly Gamblicon) began in 2015. The founder of the brand wanted his boards to be somewhat different from the generally recognized and well-known at that time American and European (mainly Turkish) boards. Therefore, they had arbitrary dimensions and were distinguished by their more simpler design. At the same time, the main requirement for the boards was the highest level of manufacturing quality for each part. The brand PRIMO (formerly Gamblicon) is presented as a manufacturer of bespoken highend, luxury boards, but also endures everyday intensive use, and in any climatic conditions. As the founder of the brand likes to say: "I make Rolls-Royces for everyday driving!"
For the first time, a special, "volumetric" design of the playing field and a neoprene pad was used between the base of the field and the polyacrylic coating material. This technology has made it possible to minimize the noise when the dice fall and roll and add dynamics when rolling / rotating, while not allowing the dice to "jump" out of the playing field. The first customers of the PRIMO "Master" boards appreciated the advantages and convenience of the game on our unique boards. Throughout 2016 and the first half of 2017, custom-made boards of the "Master" model and boards of the less expensive version of the "Classic" model were sold in steady positive dynamics that had met the demand, But in mid-2017, events took place that forced the manufacturer to temporarily suspend production. A pause that lasted for three years, in fact, was the reason for the end of the production of boards of the first generation...
2020 was the year of the revival of the PRIMO brand (formerly Gamblicon). Since 2018 the market for the production of backgammon boards from natural, exotic wood has changed significantly. Unfortunately, the quality of some competitors has decreased, while others, on the contrary, have improved. Backgammon boards were made from modern alternative materials - metal and plastic. The struggle for buyers among manufacturers of classic wooden backgammon boards has intensified. How not to lose this fight? The answer to this question came on by itself. Maintain the traditional approach to the design of the board itself and especially maintain the highest level of workmanship. The goal was simple - to create a luxurious board for everyday players with decades of durability. An investment in a "Rolls-Royce for everyday driving" that you will inherit as a heirloom to your descendants.
Therefore, the production moved from a semi-garage condition to a new workshop equipped with the necessary professional equipment and tools for laser focus precision manufacturing by hand. Second generation boards have undergone significant changes. This is the result of a huge number of personal surveys of various categories of players. From amateur beginners to world-class professionals - world champions, international champions, tournament winners and top gamblers.
Paying tribute to the man and master who made American backgammon boards famous in the 80s and 90s, Tak Morioka (Chicago), the new PRIMO boards (formerly Gamblicon) are reminiscent of his best work. We managed to reduce the weight as much as possible, installed the latest three-digit locks, a new handle made of the same wood as the body, with metal inserts, installed internal cassettes for the most convenient longitudinal storage of checkers. The most reliable hidden hinges of the SOSS type and the sublimation printing of the playing field that preserves the brightness and contrast of colors are still used. One of the most important changes is the removal of varnishes. It was decided to use the oldest, thousand-year-old technology for protecting wooden parts - coating with at least three layers of organic linseed oil. Wood continues to "breathe", its unique natural beauty is preserved, and complete protection from any moisture is guaranteed. Thus, the second generation boards can be wet cleaned.
Now the owners of the PRIMO backgammon board are absolutely confident in the undeniably comfortable game and in the ability to maintain the board in excellent functional and aesthetic condition. Truly a Rolls-Royce among the backgammon boards!
In 2022 rebranding to PRIMO! The story continues...
